Portland Maine and Casco Bay Lighthouse Tour

Portland Discovery Tour by land and sea.

Today we toured Portland, ME about 30 minutes from our campground. We toured by Sea all 4 lighthouses and were able to see some seals swimming and basking on the rocks. They seem to catch lobsters with cages similar to clams up here. They each have their own buoy identified. Lobster traps are territorial and guns are carried if you mess with some one's trap. The big light house was the Portland Headlight which we toured by land and sea. American Idol was having try outs on the pier, so  I caught a picture of their bus and people lined up. Elwin would have tried out, but we did not have his guitar with us,...ha ha. A full day of touring, but so much fun. Portland, ME has burned down 4 times in two centuries, so now everything is brick and granite. The homes are huge, there are many churches and graveyards. This place is so full of history. This port was vital in the civil war and both world wars. I would label it the San Francisco of the East. The waters are cold at around 60 degrees in the summer, Burr. We did catch lunch at the Lobster company for a Lobster roll on the pier, pricey, but fun local stuff, lobsters were called Mudd Roaches in the past, interesting. Caught some pictures of seals on seal island and in the waters. There are about 200 islands around here, some private, some public, mostly seasonal, since it is cold here in the winter. All in all interesting and outside of my box.
